World Show Copenhagen 2003 Danmark

This year’s World Show is presented by Felis Danica. They choosed Copenhagen as city and there the Bella Center, an exhibition and congress centre in close distance to the city centre and the airport. A good decision, this comfortable “all-use” hall with good parking possibilities, a big foyer and c.a. 6500 m² exhibition area. Decoration and design of the hall has been very festive and suitable for the World Show theme. The partition of the hall was as in Fifé used, in different categories. Sadly this part lead to several problems. For the orientation of the visitors and breeders, huge flags were hanging from the ceiling, printed with the single category numbers (in our case IV). In front and behind us were the Persians and the Abyssinians  placed. Normally that means no problem, if there hadn´t been complete cage rows or even single cages of the Abys placed between the Orientals and then again a row of Persians. That lead to the problem that interested people of the single races could not find all of the cats, or just a special single cat, because the numbers have not been in the same direction as the cages. You can imagine that several stewards had been close to a nervous breakdown after a while trying to find that cat they were looking for. So the judges had to ask several times for these cats by microphone to find them in time, before they get disqualified.
It was very nice, that the whole program was held in Danish and English, so nearly everybody could understand it. Especially that the calls for single cats had been held in Danish , English and German. It was a bit unusual for “non- Scandinavians” that the rows of cages had been placed backside to backside, so the breeders had to sit in front of their open/decorated cage part. If you had a little chat with some friends or breeder colleagues, there wasn’t much left to see of the cats inside the cages.  And imagine, a few rows had just a distance of 1,20m way between each other, so it was very stressy for visitors to walk by and breeders sitting very narrow for two days. Never the less the atmosphere was fantastic on this show. Many colleagues, who just knew each other by e-mail, could now meet in person after a long time. Just one bad situation appeared: During the judging of the kitten class 3-6 month –SIAn- Mrs. Stephe bruin, the judge, got a “kitten” on the table, which is not possible to describe. First the in the catalogue described cat was nearly six month old, but nobody could see that, because this little creature was in a horrible condition. Optical it looked like maybe 10 weeks (with good will), after a strong Diarroe infection (shaggy hair, very bony, pale skin, scull head, just ill appearance). Not only Stephe Bruin asked herself what that kitten lost on a World Show, or anyway, why it´s not at home at mommy cat.
And this was the onliest cat of that exposant, who had by the way a trip from far more than 1000km one way to the show! For crist´s sake this man carried the little mouse the whole day under his jacket, otherwise it might be frozen. A person which behaves so unresponsible to an animal, he should love and take care of, should get definitely charged by the club. I can not understand anyway, how this cat came through the veterinary control and this opinion had also all the other visitors and witnesses of that scene. And the speculations showed up, that the here seen kitten is not the one, which was written in the catalogue..... UNBELIEVABLE!

The big amount of cats in a gorgeous quality proved this happening to a very important date for every breeder. It is the highlight for the end of the year’s season, you have to note in your calendar. What’s the Supreme Show in Birmingham U.K., is the World Show for the rest of Europe! By the way, please  don´t mix up this show with the “Worldshow” a few independent German clubs “celebrate”. In Copenhagen you could see the best cats of Europe of the single races, which qualified for for the WS in this years´ show season (You find more details of “how to take part” in the end of this article). 90% of the there seen animals had top-top show quality. Those of  them who had been nominated for the WW Best in Show contain to the four best cats in their class or Europe. Only to come that far is a very big success for breeder and owner. The cream topping  as “royal-ending” is the title: World Winner 2003. The biggest success for a breeder. No other trophy or title is that important, that it could reach the title World Winner! But also the other three cats of the end round and their breeders and owners can be very proud. At the end of every one , who just qualified for the World Show: the Olympic thought counts – taking part is everything! And it´s an honour to loose against these winners and an incentive for the next year, showing even better offsprings than this year and try to step on the show bench (we say in Germany: the show bench which means the “world”) and try to present the World Winner 2004. Next year in Vienna, Austria. Good Luck!

We gratulate the winners and nominees :

Felikat Show Schiedam 14.September 2003 Special SIA/ORI Show

Felikat, one of the two FIFe clubs in the Netherland, came with a quite revolutionary Siamese & Oriental Special Show: a ring after the American model. And this wasn’t done in the soft variant of the free clubs, but folloing the original rules, exactly like in TICA or CFA (i.e. with places, ribbons, which showed the point score). Besides the regular judging done by Mr. E. Reijers (CZ), Mrs. K. Rautio (FI), Mr. A. Shchurkin (RU), and Mr. A.Mantovani (I), it was Mr. Ad de Bruin’s turn to judge the „Ring“. No matter the gender, the animals were entered in their regular age classes, i.e. the adults from 10 months, the neutered and the kittens from 3 to 10 months. All went like a selection procedure, at the end it remained the 3 best Siamese and best Orientals in their age class, which had again to compete with eachother and placed on rag from 1 to 6. The whole procedure was really exciting; every cat was presented to the public by a judge. Never before at a cat show I had the feeling that the time passes so quickly. The atmosphere between the breeders and the owners was really nice and friendly. I found the prizes very interesting. For the first places there was a big bottle of Champagne Blanc de Blanc, 4kg cat food and a Siamese drawing, which was already framed.
For the places 2 and 3 there was also a ½ liter bottle champagne and cat food, for the places 4 to 6 there was ½ kg cat food plus a free pick from an offer of cat-related articles for humans, for example shirts, baseball caps, table sets and towels with siamese patterns. Besides these, there were different cookies, Quiche Lorraine´ wein, champaigne and soft drinks for the well beeing of the Oriental breeders. This special show was organized by SIOK. A big compliment to Mrs. Veronica van Verschuer (who made and donated the drawings with the extreme Siamese cats) and also to the many people behind the stages who made this show possible.
After 5 (!) hours full of excitement, during which the owners expected the results, came Ad de Bruin with the help of his pupil judge Jill Back to the following decision:

23RD february MUNDIKATSHOW - BREDA - ORIENTAL BICOLOUR RECKOGNITION

It was a happy and sunny day for me to finally get to this show.
For about 15 years it was one of my goals to get the bicolour orientals reckognised in this prestigieus club that FIFE is.
Although a little nervous the whole thought of this day finally happening was stronger.
Weeks of preparation went before this show. I wanted everything to look perfect. For all the cages I had bought a black and white fluffy cowprint. The sleeping beds where either white or cowprint and Paula van de Wijngaart - president of MUndikat - had arranged for Black and White balloons hanging over the entire bicolour carree and the judging of the cats was going to be done IN this carre. At the end of the day all winning bicolours where presented black and white ribbons.
A special booklet was printed and handed to us, including the proposal to the FIFE - with all the peddigrees printed in and a short presentation of the bicolour breedingprogram of the last 15 years.
From the moment we came in, lots of people were interested. Much to my surprise many of the siamese breeders were there and very much pleased I was with this total support. They certainly made us feel very welcome!
Henk en Adri Keers, from the famous Siau Tsoe Cattery, almost camped the whole day with us, asking questions and trully showing interest in my beloved breed. And they have been supportive since then. When I asked for studservices for one of my queens later, they agreed very enthousiastically - so THANK YOU Henk and Adri.
Annemarie Huijbrechts - who was showing her siamese - was there and my sincere thanks goes out to her; she supported me always during my breedingprogram by letting me use SWEET CATS CANT TAKE MY EYES OF YOU, (a choclate point siamese) and A LANG THAI INDIAN DANCER (a seal point siamese). I will not forget her constant enthousiastic support - she's been true, true friend. THANK YOU ANNEMARIE!!
Thanks to Paula van den Wijngaart and to Mundikat this show was organised but and entering 18 cats would have been a very costly affair if Mundikat had not been so generous and give me a great big discount on the entry fees. So THANK YOU MUNDIKAT and Paula, who is also a proud owner of one of the bicolours that where shown that day.
Apart from from the organisation to get all the 17 cats to the show, a whole group of my friends showed up, friends from day 1 and big fans of the Bicolours too. They where in most case still are proud owners of the first generations (that really where not so great looking?!!) Those friends were essential and I wish to thank Janine and Charles van den Elzakker, Tineke and her kids Lena and Rosa, Ton and Arie, even Arie Groenewegen who had a black and white from me, Loet Steenbakkers and Cor de Wit.
The three judges that had been assigned to judge the Bicolours where WENDEL STOOP (Switzerland), SATU HAMALAINEN (Finland) and EVELYNE PREISS (Austria).
All judges were very very enthousiastic and supportive but especially Wendel could not hide his enthousiasme when handling the adults. They all told me they had not expect this overall quality and commented on the especially elegant bodies and fine boning (american influence). When they had finnished their judging many of the remainder of the judges came to see the bicolour carree, amoung which Alva Udin (Sweden) and Jeannick Renault (France)

At the end of the day we were told that the judges would give a positive advice to the assembly which was going to be held in may 2003.
At that assembly the vote was taken: 28 votes of which 26 voted in favour and two against.
Which such an overwelming YES even I had not counted and to tell the truth it really made up for all the - sometimes - problems I had to face.
But.... the work is not done.. we still have to produce the Vans, the Tortie Vans and the pointed and whites to look at. Who knows, some day, .... or one day.

yvonne kleijn
with thanks to the ORIENTAL EDITION
for publishing this showreport.
